Los Angeles has the largest population in California, so it is now surprise that will the large population increases and increased vehicle usage that they are struggling with the air quality in the area.

Los Angeles air quality is monitored by the AQMD or Air Quality Management District. This control agency monitors the air pollution in the urban areas of Los Angeles in an attempt to reduce air pollution where possible.

With the increased population growth and vehicles on the road, California is one of the most air polluted areas in the United States and in 2009 Los Angeles air quality had declined.  With desperate attempts to improve the quality of the air in the city the ports and businesses are reverting to diesel trucks to move heavy loads.

In 2010 Los Angeles was rated the city with the worst air pollution in the country, this has urged businesses to make the necessary changes to improve the quality of live and public health by reducing emissions and using green sources in an attempt to improve air quality in the area.

The trucks on the road has already been reduced which has played a vital role in improving air quality and reducing pollution.  Diesel vehicles are in demand to encourage change and protect public health.

Los Angeles has seen the renewable energy standard come into play, where one third of the electricity will come from green sources. Auto repair companies also offer smog health checks on vehicles to reduce unnecessary emissions.

Laws are in place regarding greenhouse gas emissions in both the home and business environments and Los Angeles ports have adopted an air quality monitoring program.

The Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) at the Los Angeles ports is enabling the ports to encourage businesses to improve their facilities, reduce emissions and reduce pollutants. There are air qualities monitoring points placed in the ports which obtain important information to help them manage their air problems effectively.

Generally the air quality varies from day to day depending on the weather, slightly windy conditions can see the pollution moving in one direction or another, but by staying on top of the emissions, Los Angeles stands a chance of having great quality air within a few short years.

Luckily the AQMD is in place to help and mentor businesses and guide them in the right direction where they can make a difference on public health.  There are a large number of Los Angeles residents who pass away each year as a result of ozone pollution.  With such a large population in such a dense area, the emissions for any given area are tremendous.

With laws in place for residential areas as well as business sectors, Los Angeles is heading in the right direction to make an improved difference on how the area is managed and controlled when it comes to ozone pollution and air quality.

Some areas are more affected than others, with the ports and highways being the most dangerous areas.  Ports constantly have trucks and ships in and out, while the highways are home to thousands of cars per hour, each releasing gasses which are poisonous and deadly.

You may be thinking why on earth would I visit Los Angeles with this much pollution and bad air quality, but you need to remember that it will not directly affect you during your holiday and this tourism area is taking big steps to improving their quality of life when it comes to air quality.

With Los Angeles clearly following programs, incentive programs and regulatory laws set down for reducing pollution, they will be a clear air area and their residents will be able to enjoy ozone pollution free air.
